Dr. Kristopher Wells

Dear Mr Eggen,
in light of the recent controversy over Dr Kristopher Wells  being made a keynote speaker at a major Alberta teachers convention, I think it is appropriate to hear from Dr Gordon Neufeld  and Dr Gabor  Mate.  Likely you have heard of their book, "Hold On to Your Kids".
Critics of Dr Wells would assert that he has a track record of putting sexual images and material directly into the hands of school children and teens, calling into question his judgment. Actually, this is not an assertion, it is a fact that PCE, among others, have illuminated. The links he provided teenagers through the GSA websites he created are an invitation to youth to experiment with sexual behavior and experiences. Let's see what Dr Neufeld has to say.

"It is not possible for adolescents to walk away from sex unscathed and casually, without something essentially human being disturbed."
"Regardless of how brief or innocent the sexual interaction, sex operates to make couples out of the participants."

"The sexual activity of peer oriented children is not about making love or making babies, but about seeking in each others arms what they should be looking for in the relationship with their parents - contact and connection."

"Not surprisingly, the more sexually active our adolescents are, the harder they become emotionally. This desensitization may seem like a blessing, allowing them to play with fire and not get hurt. But... the cost of the flight from vulnerability is the short changing of their potential as human beings and of the emotional freedom and depth that would make them truly alive."

Anyone who promotes sexual activity amongst youth, especially  'creative, casual, experimental sex' has some serious explaining to do. In light of these quotes how can you explain the approach taken by Dr Wells?  How can you explain your choice to employ him? Thankfully, since his approach is clearly wrong, his time of influence will come to an end.  Let's hope this is sooner rather than later.
Sincerely,
Catherine
