School Tale

"...I invite you to take off your cloak of doubt, empty your pockets of all suspicions and jests, sit down before the roaring fire of my tale, and believe."  (Jennifer Trafton)

    Dear Mr Eggen,

This is my tale.  Once upon a time, there was a happy little school. You could find the school out in the meadow doing lessons, reading books, and generally minding its own business. But one day, there was a visit from the government. This visit didn't go very well.

The government leader said to the school, "We know all about an issue. It's a big issue out there. You probably haven't noticed it. You probably don't know how to deal with it.  And...we are certainly not interested in what you might say to help this issue. You just need to do what we say."
The little school tried to protest. It said, "Hey, I think we might actually have a good plan for dealing with this issue . And, this issue that you speak of is almost non-existent at our school anyway. So, how about we  address this issue in our own fashion?"
"No." Said the government leader. "We just don't trust you.  You are little and don't understand this well. We are big.  We understand this well.  Do as we say."
The visit ended.  Some months later, the little school discovered a large envelope in their little mailbox. It was a letter from the government. The little school  would be shut down if it wouldn't use the precise language of the government regarding the issue.
What should that little school do?
Sincerely,
Catherine van Kampen
